FCOG EXAM OVERVIEW:
FCOG PRIMARY EXAM:
One written paper as follows:
Primary Exam: Basic and Applied Science
- 3 hour paper
- 150 MCQs – single-best-answer multiple choice questions
NOTE:
As of 2024, the FCOG(SA) will consist of 3 examinations: Primary, Intermediate and Final Examinations.
All candidates starting registrar training time in 2024 will be required to write the Intermediate Examination. Candidates may sit for the examination after completing a minimum of one year of training in a registrar post.
The following applies to candidates who have passed the FCOG(SA) Part IA or Part IB:
- Passed Part IA – candidates will be eligible to sit for Intermediate examination.;
- Passed Part 1B only – candidates will be required to write the Primary examination before writing the Intermediate examination and having completed a minimum of 12-months in a registrar training post in an accredited department approved for the purposes by the CMSA.
REQUIREMENTS:
- For admission to the Priamry examination, the candidate must hold a post-internship qualification to practise medicine which is registered or registrable with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
